Grats koenz! But please... next time use real competition-maps, especially for this kinda prize-pot :/
#22 by wormi on 2013-10-14 at 23:18
No! Use mixature of tech, dirt, rpg n stuff to make the race real skilltest!
#23 by Jonthekiller on 2013-10-14 at 23:28
#21 The objective of this cup is to propose something different than competition-maps and fun to spectate.
#24 by frostBeule on 2013-10-15 at 00:25
#22, I didn't say it had to be just tech. to be more clear: don't use 4 minute LoL-maps.

#23 so you're saying it's only fun to spectate LoL-maps...? I don't understand your logic.

#21 The idea, from what I've understand, was to organise an independant competition with interesting prize pool who can let everyone have chances to participate and succeed on those maps. The host and organizer of the tournament, zerator, who also made those map, wanted to see pros and noobs on same maps figuring how to pass them. It was a large success by the audience, and I'm pretty sure that's because we could have seen more "fails" on those maps than official competition that are made for pros.

#25 I guess we just have different views on what's entertaining then. With this kind of prize-money, I want to see the best of the best duke it out against each-other, and let the best player win. not see random fails caused by bad map-design be the decisive factor in who does the best and who wins the money. I mean it wasn't even close rounds when i was watching the final, just... random. i don't see how that's particularly entertaining, but maybe that's just me... (hope not).

#26 I agree with you. I am personnaly more amazed seeing official competitions and map because we can feel the perfection of playing. I was trying to transcribe the host's state of mind. And without playing devil's advocate, he's the one who put money in this tournament, so maybe he just wanted to do that way. At the end (semi-final and final), we all agree that all player were skilled and even if randomness was a part of the tournament, there were plenty of skill moments, routing (dat 16CP map) and technicity.

I totally agree!

It's really great to see this kind of investment in trackmania, however I also find it a bit odd to pick these kind of maps in a prize-pool tournament this big. I registered for the tournament in good faith, but instantly dropped out once I saw the maps presented on youtube. I find bugs on competition maps enough of a random source as it is. I guess my patience in TrackMania is weakened during my stay since TMN ESWC ^^

If ZeratoR came to stay, I really hope we see a few editions with more serious competition maps to play. I am fully aware of the fun-factor that many players enjoy in lol/rpg maps, but the competition scene in TrackMania could really need a consistent high profiled prize-pool tournament with solid competition maps.

Ninjaedit: Congrats to Koenzz!

#27 Yeah, sorry I of course understood it wasn't your opinion, i just expressed myself clumsily. Well, I suppose I can agree there's some skills involved (there always is), but i dunno, it just rubs me the wrong way when this kind of prize-pot is mixed with these (mostly) random maps. But hey, it's his tourney so he can do anything he wants with it.

So well, after reading all of the comments i'll write something.

To be honest, i think it's a great idea to have cups like this. Sure, the maps are not tech, the maps are not made for professionals, but the maps are made for EVERYONE in the community. What do we want with our game? We want to community to get big aswell and i think, with a idea like this, it's a great thing.

Honestly, everyone can participate in a cup like this. Why?:
1. Some things are random
2. Some maps you have to puzzle your own way to find the fastest way to the finish.

I don't find those things disturbing, but it's just another challenge. The pro players that take a look at the maps and give up already just lack motivation to go for it. Keeping your car stable when falling, flipping your car from the one loop into another and falling down through cps with exactly the right speed are ALL a matter of >skill<. It's not just luck. Also the puzzling factor ain't luck, it ain't random, it's just a factor in this tournement.

I think this tournement was a great idea, winning or not winning its a great option to get the community involved with fun and great tournements. Not only the pro's winning all the time, but also people that we never heard about might have a better line or resolved the way on a puzzle map better than we do.

The prize pool is big, tho again there is skill involved. If there wouldn't be skill involved the pro's also know that sandder, me, and devil and marius wouldn't be in the final since we are all officialy tech players.

I don't let myself refuse a tournement just because of the maps. Eventually you learn the maps. Landing bugs are a problem in tm2, but thats on all maps and not just these. I think it was a great tournement and can't wait to participate to ZrT cup #2, with the same style of maps.

I agree with the fact that i hope more of these tournements with a prize pool like this will -also- be held for the pro scene, so: on technical maps.

Everyone has another view on it. Zerator did a great job and I had fun finally driving a cup thats different than all the others. I like driving on random servers and on random maps, and driving these maps consistently was a hard job. But giving up like pro's do when seeing the maps: never.

I personally would like to see more cups with not-basic maps. I don't mean I want to see another mappack like current TmT one but something in which it's not just about drifting. Little tricks that we need to use on some "lol" maps fit well into tournaments, and I'm not talking about hexadecimal bugs or something. As Koenz said, "Keeping your car stable when falling, flipping your car from the one loop into another and falling down through cps with exactly the right speed are ALL a matter of >skill<. It's not just luck." It's the truth. Even a grassbug can be controlled.

Also, I sent a techmap with a wallride to ESL. Incoming rage by testers, as people views about how a league map should be like are strict in some details. Quoting Giorgio Moroder what he sais about music, it's works with TM also I think: Once you free your mind about a concept of harmony and music being correct, you can do whatever you want."

I know I am not a professional league driver but I guess I'm not full alone with my opinion if I said that racing on trial, dirt, fullspeed or all those mixed is just as relevant as racing on tech. Tech ain't bad at all, it's my favorite also, but it's not a reason to dishonor everything else.

Most importantly make sure it doesn't clash with another tournaments default match day.

gg everyone.

Sandder existe toujours, nice.

Aucun français dans le classement en tout cas, je trouve ça étrange et douteux. La France étant la nation de référence : les autres étant merdiques, surtout la Suède de l'incapable notoire Frostbeule.
