#5 by Jonthekiller on 2013-06-02 at 17:09
#4 J'ai mis un message ;)

#3 Il y a eu beaucoup de maps, environ 110, mais il y avait 85-90% qui n'étaient pas viable. Après il y a eu des modifications sur des maps, certaines ont eu 9 versions pour les améliorer.

I kinda like GoldenRush on first sight, but gonna give all the maps some serious testing the next couple of days :)

I hope this time not too many maps get changed around as it could basically cause only the newest once getting replaced. Teams are starting to addapt to some of the newer ones or at least giving them a try - same was with the IPL maps at the beginning, so let's see if there is a new Spitfire or Rust around :)

Hi,

My question is: why do you want to force 5 new maps in when only 4 maps of the 9 are good. I've taken a few hours to try them out and came to the conclusion that Malevolence, Golden Rush, Gouge and Starifish are playable _in my opinion_. I've only added Jilted because i had to vote for 5, but i really do not think it's a good map. This makes me wonder if it's an idea to give the option to add old maps that havent been played for months like Crossroads, Archways, Fortress. This way the maplist does not become weak because of the lack of _good_ new maps.

Obviously this is just my opinion. I would like to see what u guys think about it.

No point of making a new maplist with shitty maps when you already have good maps to play on! Only add good new maps.

+100000.
We should choice 3 new maps (we'll be sure it will be 3 good maps), 2 old, and 4 current. I miss crossroads so much :D and daybreak too.

We change 5 maps because we received a lot of bad opinions about the current mappack. When a mappack will be good or more usable, we will change only 3 maps.

We don't want to add old maps because it's not possible to move in the direction where players make maps and learn how use the map editor. At the beginning it's difficult to have an excellent mappack but it's better in the long term.

For me the problem is different. We only see one type of maps, always the same. I would like to see 2 or 3 types of maps (like reversed spawns for example) to test other possibility and make the game less boring. We see the same maps and the same strategy. After a few rounds/maps in a stream, it begin to be boring I think.

To have better maps, we need always testers, people want to give advice to mappers, test different ways, different styles...

It's impossible to have a perfect mappack, each player prefer a kind of maps. We choose to make a mappack of 9 maps because we want to try to purpose different maps to satisfy more players. You don't like a map, you can ban it like now and you will have always a "good" map for your match.

You have a good point on promoting the tools to make maps, to keep the variation up. However, I do not agree that taking in 1 or 2 old maps will hold people back from doing this. you're looking at this from a marketing point of view, trying to make the game as attractive as possible, I like that. But you also have to see it from a competitive point of view. It's more fun to play and more exciting matches will be played when the mappool includes _good_ maps. Adding a bad map in a maplist just to trigger people to make better maps aint the way to go in my opinion.

It is a possibility to have 4 current good maps + 4 new good maps + 1 old good map.

There should be like one big votingpool with like 20-25 maps(the totally old ones, the previous mappol ones, and the new ones) from which you can pick 9 maps for the next mappool. It aint good to force people to pick only new maps cause they are new(in few votes this time and before you need to pick bad maps instead of totally bad maps to avoid them). You should leave choice to people if they want to have 4-5 old maps or they want to have everything change changed. As you can see the past, new maps are almost allways banned by players cause they are useless for competitive playing. But ofc new maps should be added cause teams need to keep on practicing and by that game will be still alive and interesting. It should be like that: 4 maps from old mappool(played in previous "season"), 3 totally new maps, and 2 older maps(played "season" before in this case maps like breach, colided, cc, fortress).

Cheers.

6old maps+3new maps
#16 by CraveAries on 2013-06-08 at 00:31
yes! what byc23k said was good! it should be something like this.

first poll: witch maps to keep?(here we put Current and old maps, ALL OF THEM!)

then poll number 2: What new maps we want?(here we put the new maps.)

so we got 6 old maps, and 3 new maps.

i think this would be the absolute BEST! people will try to make new maps, and we can still play this game with good competetive maps!

because as it looks now, you only made this game worse by forceing theese retarded maps, that no one even like but we where forced to have them!

My opinion: 6old maps and 3 new ones!
Please mania-actu, concider this!

First I'd like to point out. I was in the "mapvoting" crew but I just couldn't vote for more than 3 maps I remember. One of them never made it(microstar's) which IMO was a good map. We did several games on it. But it got voted out by others for shit reasons IMO. After that both me and microstar kinda lost the motivation really. If we want to keep this game alive we really need a better way to fix the maplist. This aint working.

We need _one_ strong maplist with good maps. There is a reason why EVERYONE veto's the cloudlight, dawn & dawn, esca etc. We don't want another scenario like that. I am afraid it will happen again. Aries talked to me on TS about his idea and I like it. I also think Mania Actu should include (try to contact) the top teams in order to get their opinions. I don't wanna sound elitist but I don't want public_hero_12(FRA) voting on our maplist.

Also I agree on bringing back old maps. Some maps need changes because the metagame has changed alot but so we can get something fresh. I dont know, I really dont know what to do. Something needs to be done but I feel this aint the way. :/

For the 1st mappack, we ask several top teams to help to select the list of maps and the result was really bad (for me). We had 65 maps and a lot of bad maps and nobody was interested to take time to test all maps in detail. It can't work if you are not motivated since the beginning. Now, the things to have all maps on a forum where testers can see all maps in "real time", discuss with mappers will help to improve maps but it requires investissement of the mapper and testers.

For the vote, for me, everyone need to be able to vote and not only the top team. Maybe a solution can be to separate in two part a list of top players and all other players and make an average.

For old maps the risk is to have all time the same maps and never change. When I see the SM community in overall, I think it will be the case. Players say the game is boring, etc... but the selection of maps is one parameter where players can decide to purpose differents style of maps to make the game less boring.

Maybe a model can be 3 new maps, 3 maps in the list of the 12 last new maps (all maps of the last year), and 3 maps in a list of "vintage" maps (Nadeo maps of the alpha/beta for beginning and after all other old maps).

It requires to adapt some old maps but I don't think Nadeo will make it and it's difficult a version where everyone agreed.

Personally I like the idea of having a list from the top teams and sepparate list for the rest of the community. The top teams have the best sight on what maps have potential to be a good competitive map. and this way the rest of the community can still have a vote as well. Besides that I also like your idea to use 3 pools to vote out of. A mappool with current maps (pick 3), a mappool with old maps (pick 3) and a mappool with new maps (pick 3).

I hope we can work this out to keep the competitive scene alive with a lot of good maps that show some variation of the game! :)

But it got voted out by others for shit reasons IMO. After that both me and microstar kinda lost the motivation really.

Which we can read as "if we don't get our way, we're not gonna care". Seriously, cry harder. (Also, imagine someone differing in opinons on what maps and gameplay they want. Yes, call that shit reasons because you disagree, way to get your point across)

The map that is Microstars map now is nothing like the first version he did. And how did it end up like this? IT got playtested and he got feedback, so now you have a version you like.

What happened in our test tournament? You didn't even want to test maps, much less give feedbacks on the maps. IT was all one big cryfest from your and other people from Sweden too "Buuuhuuu, this is just public maps, the only good one is Malevolence"

Then help improve them instead! Seriously, what you've done and what you say should be done makes no fucking sense whatsoever. And why should they ask top teams for any opinions? If you don't get your way you just cry and lose motivation anyway.

I'll agree that the current method of making map packs isn't ideal. Hell, last map pack proved that, which is why things got changed around this time around.

And not giving proper feedback is hurting the selectionprocess. So you're partially to blame yourself if you don't like that maps that we can vote for.
